Ms Balogun came to the University after four years cataloguing a state library's trade-literature deposit, a job spent among price lists, catalogues and terms cards that had been kept for what they were rather than for anything they said. Her doctoral research takes a census of every locatable definition of the word "cybernetics" --- 71 in the published literature and 139 on customer-facing surfaces across a metropolitan retail catchment --- sorts them into six kinds, and scores each on the Cyberneticity Index, the eight-facet instrument the thesis constructs, publishes in full and validates against four independent raters. She works within the School of Emergent Priorities under Dr Anneke Tolan and Professor Verity Marris.
