Mr Onwuka studies the room a household does not show. His doctoral research logs 25,033 objects moved before visitors arrived at 61 households, follows 1,842 of them to see whether they come back and trials a nominated closed room across 48 households, arguing that a home is made fit to be seen by the one room whose door is closed. Before the doctorate he spent seven years preparing occupied houses for sale inspections, deciding which of a family's belongings a stranger could be allowed to see and carrying the rest to the garage. He works within the School of Continuous Improvement under Dr Thandiwe Solberg and Dr Solveig Adeyemi.
