Reading the Score, Not the Shelf

A Validation Study of a Warehouse Scanner's Pick-Confidence Score Against Independent Inventory Audit

A paper from the School of Continuous Improvement links 64 pickers' scanner-logged pick-confidence scores across nine distribution centres to a blind programme of hand-conducted inventory audits, finding the score's closest relationship is with the number of weeks since the picker's last retraining session (r = 0.81) rather than with audit-verified accuracy (r = 0.06), and that retraining changes the score without changing the error rates it is meant to flag.
