Towards a Disposal Criterion for the Battery Drawer

A research poster from the School of Emergent Priorities recovers 2,400 loose cells from 180 household drawers, measures the residual capacity of each under constant-current discharge, and costs four disposal strategies --- discard on sight, the drop test, a bench tester, and retaining everything --- as a full economic evaluation expressed in dollars per 1,000 usable cell-hours retained. Retain-all is not dominated: the drop test recovers 61 per cent of the cell-hours the bench tester recovers at 6 per cent of its time cost, and test-then-discard clears the adopted threshold only where the household hour is valued below $22.50. The poster reads the drawer as a defensible allocation rather than a lapse in diligence, and records the $840 per 1,000 cell-hours figure as the threshold against which proposals for a tested-cell station are now assessed.

Twenty Cells Certify a Thousand Punnets

A research poster from the School of Continuous Improvement specifies a single-sampling attributes plan for the seedling punnets a garden-centre chain receives, drawing twenty cells from each incoming lot and accepting on one failure to germinate. Across 316 lots over fourteen months the plan discriminates as designed, at a producer's risk of 3.6 per cent and a consumer's risk of 10 per cent at eighteen per cent nonconforming, but returns its verdict a median of twenty-one days after receipt against a median shelf residence of eight, so 91.5 per cent of lots are certified after the last punnet has been sold.

At What Tilt Does a Hung Frame Read as Crooked?

A research poster from the School of Continuous Improvement shows 312 observers the same framed print at eleven tilt levels across four frame widths, fitting a psychometric function per observer to locate the point at which a hung frame reads as crooked. The median 75 per cent detection threshold is 0.74 degrees at 600 millimetre frame width and falls to 0.60 degrees at 900 millimetres, leaving every width band above the 0.40 degree levelling tolerance that the estate's revised hanging schedule now requires each framed work to be attested against quarterly.

Measuring the Bags Changed How Often They Came Back

A research poster from the School of Emergent Priorities runs a four-phase withdrawal series across 24 households and 18 weeks, testing whether a laminated card at the internal door returns reusable shopping bags to the car boot within 24 hours of unpacking. Return rates rise from a 34.1 per cent baseline to 71.4 per cent under the prompt and settle at 63.4 per cent once the card is removed, with only 2 of 24 households recovering their own baseline; the residual is attributed to the twice-daily log, since adopted by the Adaptive Metrics Lab as its standard household protocol.

Does It Matter Where the Key Was Cut?

A research poster from the School of Emergent Priorities tests 480 duplicate house keys against torque-instrumented locks, twenty engagements apiece across 24 hardware, shoe-repair and key-bar counters over 34 weeks, with every threshold and subgroup contrast lodged before the first key was cut. First-turn success holds at 94.1% with no counter, machine-age, blank-origin or operator-tenure contrast reaching the pre-registered effect threshold, and the Horizon Register entry the study was commissioned to inform has been closed on the strength of the null.

How Used Is "Barely Used"?

A research poster from the School of Continuous Improvement convenes 41 marketplace moderators, second-hand dealers, and valuers over three Delphi rounds to fix the boundaries between the four condition grades sellers type into second-hand listings. Twenty-four items entered round one and eight were carried to round three, with panel retention at 41 of 41. Every item specifying the evidence a seller must supply crosses the 75 per cent agreement threshold registered before the first round, reaching 82.9 to 92.7 per cent; no item defining a boundary between grades does, and the two adjacent-grade boundaries gain 7.3 points each across the three rounds. The condition schedule was subsequently ratified with the four grades as the panel left them and the evidence checklist attached as a numbered requirement, so compliance is audited on the photographs supplied rather than on the grade chosen.

Towards a Cage-Loading Standard

A research poster from the School of Emergent Priorities estimates what customers select on at a service station's swap-and-go cylinder cage, from 3,852 choice tasks completed by 214 forecourt respondents. A legible collar sticker prices at 41 cents against the swap fee and the certification date printed on it at six; the exchange network's revised loading standard adopts the three highest-priced levels as a presentation requirement, and a first quarterly audit finds front-row share held by as-new cylinders risen from 21 to 46 per cent.

A research poster from the School of Continuous Improvement reports the build and first field season of LUMEN, a roof-mounted calibrated luminance camera driven at 15 km/h past 212 nominated festive-light displays across 34 suburbs. Rig and handheld boundary reference agree closely (ICC = 0.89), a display takes 2.1 minutes against 14.3 for a walk-up survey, and 94 per cent of nominated displays return a usable kerbside profile, with display class separating the luminance distributions far less than the nomination listing's categories imply.

Indistinguishable by Week Twelve

A research poster from the School of Continuous Improvement follows 318 child restraints fitted at 24 free council checking events across three council areas against 318 controls matched on restraint type, child age, and vehicle age, scoring fitting quality from household photographs at fortnightly waves to week twelve. Checked restraints score 9.2 of 10 on the day against 5.3 in controls; by week twelve the arms differ by 0.21 points (90% CI -0.18 to 0.60), inside a ±0.75-point equivalence margin fixed with the matching rule before recruitment, and the difference is reported as a null. By that point 68.9 per cent of checked restraints had been removed and reinstalled at least once, most often to clean the vehicle or to carry the child in another adult's car. Over the same period the correction rate the programme publishes as its outcome measure rose from 57.4 to 84.6 per cent, stepping 17.3 points in the year its fault-code list was expanded from nine items to twenty-three.

The Certificate Stays With the Wall

A research poster from the School of Emergent Priorities codes the 46 items of one council's skin-penetration premises checklist by what each can be observed on, and sets the result beside a census of the 402 operators working across 88 registered premises in three districts between February and June 2026. Thirty-two items score the room and its contents, eight the records kept in it, and six practice visible during the visit; none records the identity, tenure, or prior history of the person at the chair. Median operator tenure at an address is 11 months against a median scheduled inspection interval of 36, and 28.4 per cent of operators working at the time of the census were present at their premises' most recent inspection. Because the cycle is set from each address's past score, tenure is shortest where the interval is longest; in the reduced tier the chair changes hands a median of 7 months in, against a 60-month cycle.

Locked at Three on Friday

A research poster from the School of Emergent Priorities indexes rainfall to the moment each weekend ground-closure determination is lodged, across 61 community sportsgrounds in two council portfolios over 22 winter weekends. At the 15:00 Friday deadline 16.8 per cent of the weekend's ground-affecting rainfall has fallen, the remaining 83.2 per cent arriving across the days the determination governs. Agreement between the determination and a blind play-morning surface assessment is 58.4 per cent (kappa 0.19), with 214 of 402 closures assessed playable on the morning, while the timeliness indicator the sportsground management standard reports holds at 100 per cent throughout.

Stable on Four Definitions

A research poster from the School of Continuous Improvement recovers eleven annual returns (2015-2026) from one state scouting association as published, codes the census rule in force beside each, and re-derives every return from group-level census sheets on the rule that applied in 2015. The published series falls 1.5 per cent across the period; reconstructed on a single rule it falls 27.2 per cent, from 5,140 to 3,742. Four revisions carry the 1,320-member difference at the 2026 return - a widened census window (412), an entry-programme category counted for the first time (306), a lapse window extended from three months to twelve (389), and a two-year carry-over for the members of amalgamated groups (213). Every revision was footnoted in the year it was made; none was backcast, and no report in the period marks a series break on its own eleven-year chart.
