Somebody Saw It First

A marketing poster for the School of Continuous Improvement fronts Dr Solveig Adeyemi, whose work follows a report through submission, escalation, triage and closure, with the case her research keeps returning to --- the incident that is noticed but never entered on any register, and so is never available to be closed. Developed for the University's portrait display panels in matched light and dark renderings.

What Actually Ran

A case-for-support brochure opening on a community centre's term catalogue, whose evening classes are printed in full and then half of them do not run, and following that distance into the University's work on advertised offers, the records that outlive the rooms they describe, and the instruments the Indicator Commons lends to organisations outside the University. Three previously published studies anchor the publication, each cited by title and DOI.

A paper from the School of Emergent Priorities develops a seven-class field taxonomy of improvised repair from 1,462 instances photographed across 214 shared community facilities, reaching single-class assignment for 96.4% of instances at a double-coded reliability of 0.79. Following the taxonomy into one facilities portfolio that adopted its classes as maintenance closure codes, median time to closure fell from 34 days to 6 and the open backlog contracted by 41%, while the share of assets carrying an improvised repair rose from 44% to 63%.

Four Words on the Job Card

A paper from the School of Emergent Priorities reports the development and validation of the Intake Account Correspondence Inventory, a two-form instrument completed independently by the customer and the service adviser immediately after a vehicle service intake. Forty-one candidate items drawn from 62 recorded intakes and 14 adviser interviews were reduced to 19 items on three factors across 604 customer-adviser dyads at nine service centres, with the structure confirmed on an independent holdout half. Metric invariance held across the two forms and scalar invariance did not; dyadic agreement was modest overall and lowest on priority framing, the subscale on which both parties scored themselves highest. An independent coding of the matching job cards found 36% of the customer's account elements reached no field on the card in any form, and instrument scores tracked that survival only weakly.

A paper from the School of Continuous Improvement evaluates a metropolitan water retailer's automated address-normalisation release against the physical meters its merges affected rather than against the record set they cleaned. A controlled interrupted time-series analysis over sixteen quarters, with a comparison cohort excluded from the merge pass, finds reads logged against no active account rising by 5.02 per 1,000 connections per quarter at the release (95% CI 4.41 to 5.63) against no level change in the comparison series, and a field audit of 96 orphaned properties finds 91 meters still in service and registering flow. Over the same period the retailer's Record Integrity Index rose from 0.941 to 0.997, and 71.4% of the resulting customer contacts were closed under a code that removes the property from the indicator's own candidate queue.

A paper from the School of Emergent Priorities interviews 38 front-desk staff at 29 independent roadside motels, each with their own centre's paper check-in card in hand, about what every printed field is for. The 29 cards carry 41 distinct fields, six of them common to all, and participants offered a purpose for a median of five of the seventeen fields on their own card. Reflexive thematic analysis yields four themes, chief among them that an unexplained field's purpose is reconstructed from whatever is printed beside it. One group of eleven properties then adopted the four categories as a required per-field provenance annotation, growing its standard card from seventeen fields to twenty-three while the share of fields staff could account for held at roughly a third.

Nothing the Rain Hadn't Done

A paper from the School of Continuous Improvement reports a pre-registered stepped-wedge cluster trial of quarterly rooftop-solar washing across forty community sports clubs in a single council portfolio, randomised into four crossover sequences over eight quarters. The estimated effect on performance ratio over the fourteen days following a wash is 0.11 percentage points (95% CI -0.42 to 0.64), with two one-sided tests rejecting effects outside the registered equivalence bounds of plus or minus 1.5 points; rainfall accounts for roughly an order of magnitude more recovery than the wash, and the wash was retained on the council's Asset Condition Attestation after being reclassified from a generation-assurance to a condition-evidence activity.

A paper from the School of Emergent Priorities describes an eighteen-week deployment of a dispatch service that ranks each reported stray supermarket trolley by an estimate of how readily it is seen from the arterial road network, discounted by estimated retrieval cost, across a twenty-one-store retail network handling 9,412 reports from four depots. Exposure-weighted median time to collection fell from 58.4 hours to 9.0 hours and improved at every depot, while across all reports the ninetieth percentile rose from 96 hours to 412 hours and the share still open at study close rose from 0.4% to 6.1%, entirely within laneway and drainage-reserve frontages; an ablation removing the sightline prior from the exposure weight produced no detectable change in any headline measure.

Nothing Happens at Twelve

A paper from the School of Continuous Improvement treats a supermarket express lane's posted item limit as a threshold rule, estimating a sharp regression discontinuity at twelve items across 38,412 checkout transactions in 22 stores of one national grocery chain. The limit sorts effectively, cutting express-lane use by 54.8 percentage points at the cutoff, but lane service time is continuous across it at 1.7 s (95% CI -4.9 to 8.3) against a mean transaction of 96.4 s. Density testing finds excess mass at exactly twelve, and at nine stores that lowered the posted limit from fifteen to twelve mid-study the point of manipulation migrated within three weeks while service time did not move and the chain's express-lane integrity measure rose from 88.1% to 96.4%.

Neat Enough to Be Green

A research poster from the School of Continuous Improvement puts 1,776 randomised load vignettes to 148 waste transfer station gate attendants across six councils, crossing what a trailer contains with how it is stacked and how many vehicles are waiting behind it. A stacked load carrying one non-green item is called green waste in 71.4% of judgements at a clear gate and 38.2% when the same composition arrives heaped with six vehicles waiting, with presentation and queue state together shifting the call by 38.2 percentage points against composition's 47.3.

Loosened in Translation

A research poster from the School of Continuous Improvement back-translates the six community-language versions of a metropolitan council's community-hall hire conditions, coding all 186 clause-instances against the 31-clause source and finding 43 divergent, of which 30 loosen an obligation and nine drop it entirely. Bookings issued a version in which a clause had loosened or vanished are pulled up on that clause roughly three times as often, while hirer certainty about the conditions is flat across versions.

Dollars per Living Tree

A research poster from the School of Continuous Improvement costs a metropolitan council's street-tree establishment watering against survival rather than against plantings, following 386 street trees across 24 verge segments and two depots through two summers under matched-pair allocation by segment. Bagged rounds reach establishment at 71.4% against 46.9% unbagged, an incremental $318 per additional tree alive, and dominate replacement planting wherever an installed replacement costs more than $173. The council's canopy target, denominated in trees planted, books $36 to $41 per tree against $88 to $149 per tree still standing, and the per-planting figure has been carried into its capital-works ranking unchanged.
