Seats Where the Seats Already Are

A research poster from the School of Emergent Priorities audits public seating as network coverage rather than as an asset count, surveying 1,206 seats on foot across eight wards of one metropolitan council and walking 96 resident-nominated routes against a 200 m rest interval fixed before fieldwork. 41.3% of the walked network lies within 200 m of a seat and the median longest seatless run on a route is 780 m, while ward rank on seats per 1,000 residents proves largely unrelated to ward rank on route coverage: three of the four best-provisioned wards sit in the bottom half on coverage, and 63% of the past four years' installations landed on segments that already had a seat within 200 m.

Neat Enough to Be Green

A research poster from the School of Continuous Improvement puts 1,776 randomised load vignettes to 148 waste transfer station gate attendants across six councils, crossing what a trailer contains with how it is stacked and how many vehicles are waiting behind it. A stacked load carrying one non-green item is called green waste in 71.4% of judgements at a clear gate and 38.2% when the same composition arrives heaped with six vehicles waiting, with presentation and queue state together shifting the call by 38.2 percentage points against composition's 47.3.

Loosened in Translation

A research poster from the School of Continuous Improvement back-translates the six community-language versions of a metropolitan council's community-hall hire conditions, coding all 186 clause-instances against the 31-clause source and finding 43 divergent, of which 30 loosen an obligation and nine drop it entirely. Bookings issued a version in which a clause had loosened or vanished are pulled up on that clause roughly three times as often, while hirer certainty about the conditions is flat across versions.

Dollars per Living Tree

A research poster from the School of Continuous Improvement costs a metropolitan council's street-tree establishment watering against survival rather than against plantings, following 386 street trees across 24 verge segments and two depots through two summers under matched-pair allocation by segment. Bagged rounds reach establishment at 71.4% against 46.9% unbagged, an incremental $318 per additional tree alive, and dominate replacement planting wherever an installed replacement costs more than $173. The council's canopy target, denominated in trees planted, books $36 to $41 per tree against $88 to $149 per tree still standing, and the per-planting figure has been carried into its capital-works ranking unchanged.

Most of It Was the Route

A research poster from the School of Emergent Priorities partitions the variance in 18,704 first-attempt practical driving tests across candidate, examiner, testing centre and assessment route, fitting all four levels at once in a cross-classified logistic mixed model over 26 months at eleven centres where routes are allocated by queue position at check-in. The assessment route accounts for 14.8% of outcome variance and the examiner 9.3%, against 6.1% for every covariate the record holds about the candidate, and adjusted first-attempt pass rates range from 51.3% to 78.9% across the 41 routes in an order stable across the period. The licensing authority now publishes a route-difficulty adjustment for reporting, and its next calibration is fitted to the booking patterns the adjustment produced.

The redesign raises recall of the notice by 16.7 percentage points and correct identification of the closing date by 15.8, while submissions per notified property differ by 0.02 (95% CI -0.09 to 0.13) against a pre-registered detectable difference of 0.12. The program's plain-language compliance indicator reached 100% of the intervention arm.

Sealed, Then Re-Worn

Successor lines appear at 71% of sealed sites within twelve months at a median of 18 weeks, and the wear score that qualified a route for sealing shows no detectable association with that timing (HR 1.04, 95% CI 0.71-1.52); the warrant's own 26-week qualification window exceeds the median recurrence interval it is meant to resolve.

Too Cold to Count

Conditional logistic regression returns an adjusted odds of being cold of 6.1 (95% CI 2.9-12.8) in the lowest recorded-usage quintile against the highest, on a counter that increments only when a unit completes a heat cycle; none of the 82 cold units appears on the renewal shortlist drawn from the top two quintiles.

Raw agreement across 4,224 paired line-item judgements is 85.0% but pooled Cohen's kappa is 0.26, falling to 0.11 on the six items carrying the largest scheduled deductions, with the highest agreement recorded on the one condition grade that attracts no deduction at all.

Out of Office, Indefinitely

A research poster from the School of Emergent Priorities interviews 156 staff across nine organisations once their out-of-office auto-reply has run at least three days past its own stated return date, coding unprompted reasons into a five-category taxonomy and checking each account against the reply-log timestamp behind it. The category a respondent offers predicts the overrun already banked rather than the overrun still to come: ownership-unclear replies carry a median 61 days past their stated date at interview, more than triple the deliberate-buffer group's median 17 days.
