Strategy Absorption in a Two-Volunteer School Tuckshop follows a primary-school tuckshop through the first four terms of a strategic plan delivered by a pro bono consultancy engagement: a vision statement, three pillars, fourteen indicators and a quarterly report to the parents’ association. Professor Verity Marris, Dr Anneke Tolan and Associate Professor Kwame Lindqvist pair an embedded observer at the counter with the tuckshop’s own volunteer-hours ledger, harmonising field observation, document analysis and fortnightly logging into a single account of governance uptake. The volunteers’ total week never moved; its composition did, with plan administration rising from 4.2 to 31.6 per cent of logged hours and the plan’s indicator set growing from fourteen to twenty-one without a single retirement.
The plan asked nothing unreasonable of anyone; it simply asked it every quarter. What the ledger let us see is an organisation of two keeping a promise sized for an organisation of two hundred.
