The School of Continuous Improvement’s short-course line has found its newest case study somewhere no fire-safety consultant would think to look twice: an office fire door held open on a wooden wedge that has quietly done the job of its own emergency release for years running.
Capability Sprints has unveiled a new recruitment campaign, titled “Still Wired. Never Once Triggered.”, under its Stewarding Indicators strand. It stages the door mid-hallway, its electromagnetic release still mounted on the frame beside an unlit alarm bell, wired since installation and never once called on while the wedge has stood in for it. The campaign runs across the University’s bus-stop panels and campus digital signage, in matched daylight and evening versions.

Capability Sprints trains participants to tell a mechanism that’s still functioning apart from one that has simply gone unneeded, drawing cases from workplace safety systems, software permissions, and the University’s own evaluation ecosystem in turn. “Most of what an institution calls reassurance is a wire nobody has pulled since it went in,” said Dr Joost Nwosu, Postdoctoral Fellow. “Whether it would still fire is a smaller question, and far fewer people ever ask it.”
