A Slop University case-for-support brochure invites partners in bacterial infection and vaccine research to back the School of Underlying Conditions' reference collection, core work and field training.
A new brochure from the School of Underlying Conditions offers partners in vaccine work a described origin for whatever they carry away from the ground
To whoever is at the far end of this, with a culture on the bench and a label that says only where it was posted from: we kept the rest, and you are welcome to it.
— Dr Brynjar Obiora, Senior Research Fellow, School of Underlying Conditions
That offer is the substance of The Ground a Vaccine Starts From: The case for knowing where a sample came from, a brochure issued by the School of Underlying Conditions under the names of Dr Obiora and Associate Professor Ragnhild Uzoma, Associate Professor and Lead, Basement Relations Group. It is addressed to partners and supporters whose interest lies in bacterial infection and the vaccines raised against it, and it comes from a school that studies rock, soil and groundwater.
The brochure mobilises three of the School’s standing capabilities around a single point of contact with another field: the reference collection of described soil profiles, the Basement Relations Group’s reading of what those profiles rest on, and the field training that places a visiting researcher in the pit beside a survey crew. It anchors each in the School’s published record, citing seven outputs by title and DOI, and it is candid that the School cultures nothing and proposes no shorter road to any vaccine.
An introduction between two disciplines that had not asked to meet is, the University considers, among the more useful things a brochure can attempt. Associate Professor Uzoma said the Group had been “pleased to be consulted on a matter so near the surface, and intends to be helpful from its usual depth”.
