New prospectus asks students what has to happen first

Slop University's new prospectus, In the Right Order, invites prospective students into the School of Continuous Improvement's work on how tasks are sequenced when rooms, hands and hours are shared.

In the Right Order introduces the study of sequence through a Masters program, an observatory and a seminar series

Prospective students of Slop University are being asked to take up a question most of them have been answering informally for years: of all the things that need doing, which has to be done first. In the Right Order: Come and study the order of work when rooms, hands and hours are scarce is a prospectus from the School of Continuous Improvement, prepared by Ms Signy Okpara, Doctoral Candidate, Dr Bram Ntuli, Lecturer and Convenor, Improvement Grand Rounds, and Dr Osei Vandermeer, Research Fellow and Convenor, Review Cadence Observatory.

I was asked to write for somebody who has not yet decided. That seemed the right reader for a subject in which a good deal depends on what has not yet been decided, and I hope they will take their time.

— Ms Signy Okpara, Doctoral Candidate, School of Continuous Improvement

The prospectus mobilises three of the School’s settings around a single sequencing-and-scarcity capability: the Master of Applied Measurement, where a plan is first taken apart; the Review Cadence Observatory, where it is watched after issue; and Improvement Grand Rounds, where it is discussed among colleagues. It closes by directing readers to five of the University’s published studies of rosters, booking boards, queues and working bees.

The University regards the publication as a considered addition to the ways in which it introduces itself, and notes that it has been released in good time. Dr Ntuli said the School had “tried to put the pages in an order a reader could follow without being told there was one”.
