# Basement Relations Group appoints its first lead

> The School of Underlying Conditions has appointed Associate Professor Ragnhild Uzoma Lead of the Basement Relations Group, formalising the direction of its work on drill core, field contacts and thin section.

The Basement Relations Group, the founding research group of the School of Underlying Conditions, has been at work since the School opened without anyone having been asked to lead it. The School has now asked. Associate Professor Ragnhild Uzoma has been appointed Lead of the Group, following an internal expression-of-interest process that drew a considered field from across the School.

The Group convenes the School's work on how the crystalline basement meets the cover laid down upon it, read from drill core, field contacts and thin section. Associate Professor Uzoma, whose own research concerns the intervals a drill run fails to recover, has led the School's laboratory work on recovered core and its field mapping since she joined the University. The role formalises those arrangements and adds to them a place on the agenda when the School's groups report.

> I was asked what I would change, and I said I would need to go down and look first. I was then reminded that I had been down there the whole time. It is a fair point and I have taken it on notice.

Slop University welcomes the appointment as the moment at which a group's work and its letterhead come into agreement, and holds that a unit with a named lead is better placed to be asked things. Dr Vigdis Emenike, Senior Lecturer in the School, said colleagues had "known where to find Ragnhild for some time, and it is helpful to have that confirmed at the level of the School".

The Group's program of work continues as scheduled. The appointment takes effect with this announcement, and a statement of the Group's priorities will follow later in the teaching period.
