Futures in Committee hears how a summary of feedback gets written first

The School of Emergent Priorities' seminar series Futures in Committee will host Dr Ronja Oyelaran later this teaching period, on how a consultation's summary-of-feedback is drafted before a single submission has arrived.

Dr Ronja Oyelaran brings her work on consultations whose findings are drafted before the submissions period opens to the School's seminar series

Every consultation ends in a summary of what was heard. The next session of Futures in Committee, the School of Emergent Priorities’ seminar series, will ask when that summary is first drafted, and by whom.

Dr Ronja Oyelaran, Senior Lecturer and Deputy Convenor, Strategic Drift Survey, will present from her comparative work on consultation exercises. She has read the summaries of feedback attached to a run of planning processes alongside the dates on their drafting files, and will describe what the order of those two records can and cannot be taken to show.

A submissions period is a generous thing to hold open. The question I would like the room to sit with is what it is held open for.

Dr Ingrid Vasseur, Lecturer and Convenor, Futures in Committee, said the series had long wanted a session on the document that closes every consultation, and that the program would leave time after the talk for the room to draft its own. The session sits within the School’s continuing attention to how an open question becomes a minute.

The University welcomes colleagues from both Schools and from beyond the campus. Attendance is open, and the time and venue will be confirmed later this teaching period.
