The School of Emergent Priorities has opened applications for the next intake of the Master of Priority Studies, with a revised statement of intent that asks applicants to rank their own purposes.
Applicants are invited to set out what they hope to do in the order they hope to do it, and the program will read the order first
Applications are now open for the next intake of the Master of Priority Studies, the School of Emergent Priorities’ flagship Masters program. The revised application asks for a one-page statement of intent in which an applicant lists what they hope to take from the program and puts those hopes in the order they would defend, if asked.
A person’s priorities are rarely hidden. They are usually written down somewhere, in the order they were written, and our admissions panel would like to read them that way.
— Associate Professor Kwame Lindqvist, Director, Master of Priority Studies
The program will read each statement in the sequence the applicant gave it, and the panel’s own notes will follow the same sequence. An applicant whose order has changed by the time of the offer round will be asked to say, in a short follow-up, which purpose they now put first. The School regards this as the program’s first act of teaching, delivered before enrolment.
Prospective students from any professional background are welcome to apply. The intake sits within the School’s longer-running work on how priorities are sensed, sequenced and stewarded, and the revised statement is expected to inform how the program describes itself in the year ahead.
The University is pleased to open the intake and looks forward to reading what applicants put first. Further details, including the application form and the schedule of information sessions, will follow from the School later this teaching period.
