# Procedure pages to hold their skip link back

> A new Slop University research poster presents a five-kind taxonomy of recipe-page preambles, and the scroll length that will now stand before the skip-to-the-form link on the University's procedure pages.

Every University procedure page carries a link that takes the reader straight to
the form, and from the next teaching period that link will appear only once the
reader has scrolled far enough to have earned it. The distance comes from a
research poster published today by the School of Emergent Priorities, which
turns to the recipe page for its evidence.

The poster, _Skip Link, Eventually_, reads the introductions that online recipe
pages place ahead of the ingredients and sorts them into five kinds: Provenance,
Weather, Defence, Confession and Method note. It then follows household readers
as they scroll, and finds a single kind that people tend to read to its end.

> We came to the recipe page for the cooking and stayed, it turns out, for what
> the author had to say first.

The University has adopted the length of that kind as its own reference. Skip
links on procedure pages for leave, travel and ethics will follow it, and a page
without an opening account of how its procedure came about will gain one above
the form. Dr Anneke Tolan, Senior Research Fellow and Deputy Convenor, Futures
in Committee, said the arrangement "gives each procedure a moment to introduce
itself."
