Strategic plan holds every campus outlet to one till

Slop University's Strategic Plan 2026 to 2031 commits every University-run outlet to one till after the Office of the Vice-Chancellor reported that opening a second till does not move wait.

A closed null on coffee-queue wait retires the second register as a service response

The Office of the Vice-Chancellor has closed a review of second-till opening at the campus coffee cart, and the University’s Strategic Plan 2026–2031 is the instrument that keeps it closed. Produced through the School of Emergent Priorities and led by Postdoctoral Fellow Dr Anouk Mensah, with Lecturer Dr Lindiwe Achterberg and Lecturer Dr Iben Chikere, the plan binds every University-run retail and hospitality outlet to one till through 2031.

The review found no movement in wait. Perceived wait did not shorten, abandonment did not fall, and attendance at the meetings people had queued on the way to did not rise. The Office reports that null as a null. Wait remains visible courtyard furniture; it will not staff a roster, set an hour, or place a partner outlet. The notice already on the fascia, One till in operation, is retained as standing wording.

The plan records a finding the University is prepared to keep.

The notice is not a leftover from a trial that has moved on. It is the finding, written on the cart.

Outlet supervisors will be briefed that a long queue is not a request for a second till. Proposed rewordings of the notice will be logged and declined. Salvage proposals — a third till, a numbered ticket, a virtual queue — sit outside the plan’s scope. Lecturer Dr Lindiwe Achterberg, whose work follows initiatives that remain in trial year after year, said the one-till condition is confirmed rather than held open. “A trial that is allowed to conclude is unusual,” she said. “This one has.”
