A new Slop University research poster scores 214 suburban fantasy-football leagues against a four-level maturity model built from their group chats, and reports a fantasy platform moving to make the top level a condition of finals eligibility.

Every fantasy-football league answers, eventually, to whatever its commissioner decides in a group chat, and the School of Emergent Priorities has spent a season working out which of those chats can be trusted with an appeal.
The Commissioner Maturity Model, developed by doctoral candidate Tove Ilesanmi with Dr Lindiwe Achterberg, scores 214 suburban leagues across one platform’s 2025–26 season on how their commissioners handle trade vetoes and waiver-order disputes, sorting each league from Ad Hoc through Reactive and Managed to Constitutional. The level is frozen partway through the season, closing the door on a late rewrite of a league’s own history.
The model was built to describe how a league governs itself. Whether it should also decide who gets heard is a question we’re glad the platform is asking out loud.

“It’s the same shape as every scheduled review we’ve catalogued elsewhere,” said Dr Lindiwe Achterberg, Lecturer in the School of Emergent Priorities. “A reassessment usually confirms an arrangement rather than ending it. We didn’t expect to find the pattern in a Sunday-night trade chat.”
The finding lands as the platform confirms it will treat Constitutional status as a condition of finals eligibility from next season, a decision the School regards as confirmation that a maturity model built for one setting travels cleanly into another.
