Two scooters left on the wrong side of a painted line are now enough to lose a rider their account for a week. A research poster published today by the School of Continuous Improvement audits 1,842 share-scooter parking events across three transit-precinct sites against a new four-cell compliance quadrant, and the rule the audit produced is already live on the operator’s app.
The School has built a name for taking an ordinary compliance photograph and finding the instrument hiding inside it; this one took under half a year to reach an enforcement clause. Two independent raters coded each parking event against a pre-registered clearance standard, crossing whether a scooter landed inside its marked corral with whether it left the accessible path clear. The rarest of the four resulting cells, labelled Marooned, now carries the heaviest consequence: a second Marooned placement inside a rolling thirty days suspends the rider’s account for a week, with no manual override.
A corral photograph is the easiest fact in the whole system to check, so naturally it’s the one the account gets suspended over.

Co-author Sten Okwuosa, Senior Research Fellow and Convenor of the Impact Pathway Atlas, said the corral’s own painted boundary has not moved at either of the trial’s two busiest sites since audits began in March, and that a second trial is now planned to test whether widening it moves events out of the Marooned cell faster than a week’s suspension does.
