A new advertising campaign from the School of Continuous Improvement retests a trading-card bunching coefficient at a council parking-fine deadline, and the Indicator Commons adopts it as a portable metric regardless.

The School of Continuous Improvement has spent much of the past year arguing that a good indicator should travel: built once, it ought to keep working wherever the same kind of decision gets made from a threshold. An advertising campaign released today, fronting Senior Lecturer Thandiwe Solberg, sends the School’s best-known travelling instrument looking for its pattern once more — this time at the moment a parking-infringement notice’s early-payment discount runs out.
The instrument started at a trading-card chain’s trade-in counter, where staff keying in a catalogue value crowded just over the thirty-dollar premium-tier line far more than chance allows, and a chain dashboard read the resulting pile-up as evidence of better stock coming through the door. The campaign asks whether payments pile up the same way against a discount deadline. They do not: the timing of payments across the line returns no excess mass at all, nothing like the counter’s original crowding.

The null result has not slowed the coefficient down. The Indicator Commons confirmed today that the measure will be added to its portable-metrics register, available to any council wishing to adopt an early-payment compliance signal without a local recheck of its own. The School frames the addition as consistent with its wider view that a shared indicator, once built, ought to be there when the next threshold needs one.
