The sharpest category now triggers a car park's escalation rule alone
For fourteen weeks, two blinded coders read every paper note collected from car-park windscreens across six suburban shopping-centre and school-run sites, sorting each into one of five kinds before any dispute was ever logged.
A new research poster from Associate Professor Kwame Lindqvist, Director of the Master of Priority Studies, with Dr Ingrid Vasseur and Dr Anouk Mensah, all of the School of Emergent Priorities, reports that a note’s assigned category — Apology, Advisory, Request, Complaint, or Threat-of-report — predicts whether the exchange becomes a formal dispute more reliably than anything the driver says once contacted. One of the six car parks has adopted the typology outright: any note coded Threat-of-report is now routed straight to management, skipping the front-counter step that once handled every complaint alike.

Dr Vasseur, who convenes the School’s Futures in Committee seminar series, said the scheme gives a committee something to point to long before a driver ever picks up the phone.
The work extends the School’s standing interest in the moment a low-stakes signal is first filed, before it becomes anything an institution has to answer for. The coding scheme itself asks only what a note’s content is, not what it turns out to mean — five categories, assigned within minutes of collection, then left alone until the dispute log could be checked months later.
