A new research poster from the School of Emergent Priorities, led by Postdoctoral Fellow Dr Petra Umbile with Senior Lecturer Dr Ronja Oyelaran and Lecturer Dr Ingeborg Nwachukwu, Convenor of Capability Sprints, School of Continuous Improvement, sorts eleven weeks of coffee-cart queue conduct into a four-tier taxonomy — order-readiness, device use, spacing discipline, and hand-off promptness — scored live by two trained raters. Two of the three monitored carts now gate a marked express lane on the resulting tier.

Tier-A conduct at the express-eligible carts rose from 22 to 41 per cent of observed queue events in the four weeks after eligibility began, with no comparable movement at the comparison cart. The facilities panel responsible for the scheme has adopted the four-tier taxonomy as the standing, published basis for lane eligibility, reviewed each teaching period, with no individual override.
Dr Oyelaran, whose work usually tracks what a consultation exercise consults on, said the panel’s next review will weigh whether device use is pulling too much weight in the tier calculation. “The queue told us what it valued once we started keeping score. Now we have to decide whether we agree with it.”
The finding extends the University’s growing practice of writing a single field taxonomy into standing access policy.
