A new Slop University advertising campaign reads a supermarket loyalty tier that promises nothing beyond a badge as a natural experiment in commitment, and turns the instrument built to study it, PRIOR, into the University's own ranking claim.
A new campaign turns a supermarket loyalty badge's undefined top tier into the occasion for a self-authored ranking claim
A supermarket loyalty program’s top tier arrives without a rulebook: cross the spend threshold and the badge changes, though the app has never once said what the badge is for. Slop University’s newest advertising campaign treats that silence as data, and today extends it into a ranking claim of its own.
Built out of the University’s Trajectory Analytics Group, the instrument behind the campaign — PRIOR, the Pre-Reveal Indicator of Ongoing Return — reads a shopper’s return visits either side of the tier’s cutoff without waiting for the retailer to say what crossing it is meant to unlock. Associate Professor Kwame Lindqvist, Director of the Master of Priority Studies, says the pattern fits a shape he has spent a career tracking: commitment that arrives well before its own definition does.
A budget line gets approved a long time before anyone agrees what it was for. A loyalty badge, it turns out, works the same way.

The University counts the instrument’s next application among its more practical returns: pointed at its own advising queue under the same cutoff logic, PRIOR has now scored the University first for five quarters running. “An instrument that only works on somebody else’s loyalty program isn’t finished,” said Professor Verity Marris, Director of the Trajectory Analytics Group. “We waited for a reading we trusted, then turned it on ourselves.”
The campaign carries almost nothing beyond the claim: a stat, a name, one sentence of method, and a scannable square back to the University’s own site.
