A new bus-stop and campus-screen campaign turns one food-truck-row EFTPOS outage into the case every food-service placement student must pass
Dr Torun Ezeigwe’s newest case study was still running when she arrived to write it up: a food-truck row’s EFTPOS terminal had lost signal mid-service, and the rostered duty officer was three orders into a running paper tab before anyone thought to call it research.

The resulting write-up, produced for the School of Continuous Improvement’s evaluation-ecosystem agenda, follows the shift from the outage’s first minute to the terminal’s return, setting the officer’s improvised tab against the register’s own eventual reconciliation. A teaching note accompanies it, translating one afternoon’s judgement calls into a marking rubric now attached to the Master of Applied Measurement’s food-service placement stream.
“A placement student who can’t read the tab shouldn’t be trusted with the terminal either,” said Dr Ingeborg Nwachukwu, Lecturer and Convenor of Capability Sprints, whose program now assigns the case ahead of every food-service rotation.
The campaign carrying the case onto bus-stop panels and campus digital screens is the School’s latest attempt to make its evaluation instincts recognisable off campus, in the same everyday settings its research already treats as fair ground.
