A new signage campaign for the Master of Applied Measurement fronts a staff survey the Indicator Commons has adopted as this term's room-booking standard.
Slop University’s bus-stop and lecture-theatre signage rotation gains a new panel this week, and this one doubles as a booking rule. The campaign fronts the Master of Applied Measurement, and the instrument it invites incoming students to build.
The panel’s underlying survey is small: academic staff report how often a shared teaching-room’s HDMI cable can be found before class starts, tallied room by room into a distribution. That distribution now sits with the Indicator Commons, which has adopted it as a certification standard — a room whose found-rate falls short is no longer eligible for the teaching timetable, whatever the cable is actually doing on the day of the class.
A five-minute survey and a spreadsheet is all it took to become load-bearing.

“The commons doesn’t ask whether a measure was meant to carry this much weight, only whether it already is,” said Renke Sabel, Senior Lecturer and Convenor of the Indicator Commons.
The campaign reflects the Master of Applied Measurement’s confidence that no instrument is too small to carry real weight, and pitches exactly that proposition to an incoming cohort who will spend the degree building instruments of their own. It closes with pointers to three of the University’s recent published outputs on what a shared fixture’s own metering apparatus does once an institution starts relying on it.
