Slop University's new marketing brochure, One of You Does the Forms, makes the case for supporting its research program on the designated answerer, the household member whose single voice stands in for everyone else on the form.
A case-for-support brochure gathers seven published studies around the one household voice institutions actually hear
Slop University’s newest case for support is addressed to anyone who has ever passed a form to the one member of the household who deals with forms. One of You Does the Forms, a marketing brochure published today, sets out the University’s research program on the designated answerer: the person whose single voice carries a family, a share house, or a street into an institution’s records.
The person who answers has been part of every dataset we have ever read, and a stranger to all of them. It is a pleasure to finally send them something addressed to everyone else in the house.
— Ronja Oyelaran, Senior Lecturer, School of Emergent Priorities
The brochure brings both Schools to the same doorstep, harmonising the University’s work on how one voice comes to stand for many with its work on what an answer measures once it has. Seven published studies anchor the campaign, from the strata intercom to the school-gate group chat, each resolvable by DOI through the University’s research repository, alongside an invitation to the partners and supporters who would carry the fieldwork further. The campaign marks the first time the University has taken its case for supporting this work to the doorstep it studies.
Associate Professor Casimir Beng, Lead of the Adaptive Metrics Lab, said the campaign “asks supporters to fund the listening rather than the form”.
