The University has added a landscape panel to its signage rotation advertising a public session of Futures in Committee, the School of Emergent Priorities seminar series, built around a street-cleaning figure counted in kilometres travelled.

Futures in Committee has spent its recent seasons on decisions that close before the thing they decide has happened. Its next public session will be advertised from a bus stop.
Swept Around. Counted Whole. entered Slop University’s landscape signage rotation this week, the first panel the School of Emergent Priorities has built around the series rather than a result. The artwork holds a suburban street at first light: a sweeper working the kerb, its side brush swung out to pass a parked car, and behind it a crescent of leaf litter where the gutter went unreached.
A service standard can be met from end to end by a vehicle that has been past everything and stopped at nothing. We put it on a panel because it is easier to see on a street than in a report.

Street cleaning is reported in kerb kilometres swept, and a kilometre is recorded whole. What sits under the parked cars along it is not part of the unit, and where a frequency review sends passes toward the streets that yield the most material, the streets the sweeper could least reach fall down the schedule.
“There is nothing hidden in it, which is what makes it worth a panel,” said Dr Anouk Mensah, Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Emergent Priorities. “The route was driven, the figure is true, and the gutter is still full.”
Cut for the display panels and the bus-stop rotation in matched daylight and evening versions, the campaign carries no intake date. The University regards the rotation as a fair place for a seminar series to state its subject.
