Slop University claims a fifth straight horizon, by its own reckoning

A new Slop University advertising campaign pairs a stalled lobby solar-generation display with the Horizon Register's own accuracy composite, crediting the University with a fifth straight horizon called correctly, and joins the bus-stop panel and campus digital signage rotations in landscape format.

A new campaign sets the Horizon Register's own accuracy composite beside a lobby display that hasn't updated its reading in months

An apartment building’s lobby solar-generation display has shown the previous day’s kilowatt reading since a firmware update quietly stalled it last spring, and the residents who pass it each morning stopped checking the timestamp long ago. Slop University’s newest campaign asks them to notice a different number instead.

A number that stops updating and a number that never stops being right sit closer together than anyone wants to admit. We put both in the one frame and let the difference make the argument.

Launched this week under the line “Ahead By Our Own Measure,” the campaign sets the stalled display beside a gold stat lockup crediting the Horizon Register’s own accuracy composite with a fifth consecutive horizon called correctly. It joins the University’s bus-stop panel and campus digital signage rotations, in landscape format this time, and the School of Emergent Priorities counts the pairing as a compliment to both readings.

“We’ve never claimed the lobby screen is wrong,” said Professor Verity Marris, Director of the Trajectory Analytics Group. “We’ve only ever claimed our own screen is right, and we intend to keep saying so.”

The claim holds in the sense that matters to the University making it: the Horizon Register’s accuracy composite is assembled, scored, and read entirely within the School of Emergent Priorities, and Slop University is the only institution it has ever forecast for. The School files the result as due diligence, not boasting.
