A new Slop University advertising campaign for the Master of Applied Measurement features Senior Lecturer and Director Torun Ezeigwe holding up the rubric her research keeps coming back to, running across bus-stop panels and campus digital signage.
A new bus-stop and campus-screen campaign puts the Master of Applied Measurement's own director in front of the instrument she studies hardest, the marking rubric
The newest addition to Slop University’s bus-stop and campus-screen rotation puts a stack of graded papers in frame before it puts the University’s name there, running under the line “The Instrument Deserves Scrutiny Too.”
The campaign fronts Dr Torun Ezeigwe, Senior Lecturer and Director of the Master of Applied Measurement, whose research keeps returning to a question her own program’s rubrics would rather not answer: how far a marking rubric drifts from the class it was written for, once cohort after cohort has been taught, in effect, to the test that grades them. A researcher willing to put her own instrument’s blind spot on a bus shelter is, the University maintains, doing recruitment and self-audit in the same square metre.
The instrument earns scrutiny too.

“Most of what my program teaches is how to build a rubric,” Dr Ezeigwe said. “The harder course is the one about noticing when your own has stopped measuring what you think it measures.”
Runa Adegoke, Senior Lecturer and Convenor of the Strategic Drift Survey, said the campaign was a rare case of an instrument volunteering for the audit it usually waits to be assigned.
The campaign runs across the University’s bus-stop panels and campus digital signage, with a paired night rendering for after dark. The full advertisement is available from the University’s research repository under an open licence, doi:10.5555/slop.5dmsw3.
