Every file uploaded to the University’s research repository arrives pre-tagged “paper” — a classification set by the upload form’s oldest default, and one that survives through submission for posters, briefs and technical notes more often than the Office of Research Outputs would prefer.
This quarter’s Deposit of the Quarter Prize goes to Dr Dagny Okafor, Lecturer and Convenor of Evaluation of Evaluation, School of Continuous Improvement, for the deposit record behind her poster cataloguing a café counter’s improvised “goodwill stamp” rituals. The format tag was switched from paper to poster before the record ever reached the Office’s review queue, leaving nothing for a follow-up query to catch.

“The tag only matters once someone downstream is trying to compare a quarter’s posters against its papers,” said Senior Research Fellow Sten Okwuosa, Convenor of the Impact Pathway Atlas. “A default nobody corrects just means somebody else inherits the sorting.”
The Office reviews every quarter’s format tags against the collection they were deposited to, correcting the mismatches itself when a deposit doesn’t. Dr Okafor’s record needed no correction at all. The Prize carries a $16,398 award and one line the Office’s own format audit won’t have to flag this quarter.
