Capability Sprints' new pitch is a printer queue that never catches up

A new Slop University advertising campaign for Capability Sprints builds its recruitment pitch around an office printer's queue counter that keeps reading three jobs ahead long after all three have printed, running across bus-stop panels and campus digital signage in matched daylight and evening versions.

A new bus-stop and campus-screen campaign for the short course turns a stalled printer queue counter into the whole argument for enrolling

Every cohort arrives certain they’d catch a stalled number immediately. By the second session, most of them can’t tell you the last time they checked one that mattered.

— Dr Ingeborg Nwachukwu, Lecturer and Convenor, Capability Sprints

That line opens Capability Sprints’ newest recruitment campaign, built around a fixture from almost any shared office: a printer’s queue counter, still holding at three jobs ahead long after all three have gone through.

Unveiled today under the line “Three Jobs Ahead Of Nobody,” the campaign stages a training-room session mid-lesson, a wall-mounted dial fixed on a reading nobody in the room could quite justify, running across the University’s bus-stop panels and campus digital signage in matched daylight and evening versions.

The pitch is for Reading the Dashboard, one of five Sprints on offer this teaching period, which opens its first session on precisely this kind of number: one updating on its own schedule rather than the room’s.

“The interesting question was never whether the counter was wrong,” said Dr Marit Osayande, Lecturer and Convenor, Living Dashboard. “It’s how long a room can sit under it before somebody asks.”

Enrolments for Reading the Dashboard are open for the current teaching period. The full advertisement is available from the University’s research repository under an open licence, doi:10.5555/slop.ce3dwm.
