Slop University's Open Day pitch opens with a cake-stall float

A new Slop University advertising campaign for the Master of Applied Measurement asks Open Day attendees to bring a fete-stall cash float, arguing they already have the instinct the program teaches.

The Master of Applied Measurement's bus-stop and campus-screen campaign asks prospective students to bring an instinct they already have

Most open-day campaigns ask a prospective student to imagine themselves on campus. The Master of Applied Measurement’s newest one asks them to bring something from home instead.

The campaign’s single image is a school fete cake stall mid-morning — a trestle table crowded with jars and wrapped baking, a cash tin open beside a child’s counting hand — under the line “Bring The Cake-Stall Float.” It runs from today across the University’s bus-stop panels and campus digital screens ahead of the program’s Open Day this spring, with a matching evening rendering built to hold up on panels after dark.

A float that balances by the end of the afternoon has already done harder arithmetic than most of what walks onto our Demo Quarter stage.

The School of Continuous Improvement frames the invitation plainly: attendees are welcome to bring their own tin, though the program confirms none will be required at the door. What the campaign is really counting on, the School says, is that the reconciling instinct behind a fete stall’s takings is closer to the program’s own discipline than most enrolling students realise. The line between the two, in the School’s telling, is one semester and a name.
