The Office of Research Outputs judges every quarter’s crop of deposits against the same checklist: title, abstract, licence, contributor roles, no field left for someone else to chase up later. Most quarters produce a shortlist. This one produced a single deposit nobody on the Office’s side had to touch twice.
The Prize goes to Dr Sten Okwuosa, Senior Research Fellow and Convenor of the Impact Pathway Atlas, for the deposit record behind his study of the after-hours book-return chute sensor: every checklist field complete on submission, no reminder sent, no revision requested.
I’ve spent the better part of a decade tracing what happens to a finding after somebody clicks submit. Filling in my own deposit properly felt like the least I owed the record.

“A clean deposit doesn’t announce itself the way a finding does,” said Lecturer Bram Ntuli, Convenor of Improvement Grand Rounds. “It just means nobody in this Office had to go looking for anything.”
The Office scores every quarter’s deposits against four fields it will not waive: complete contributor roles, an accurate licence, an abstract that matches the deposited file, and a submission lodged inside the standard turnaround. Dr Okwuosa’s record cleared all four without a single follow-up email from the Office, the outcome the checklist is built to allow for and rarely gets.
The Prize carries a $1,864 award and, more durably, a line in the Office’s own register of deposits it never had to chase, the record Dr Okwuosa’s colleagues are now citing as the standard the rest of the quarter’s crop somehow didn’t clear.
