Slop University’s Invigilation Readiness Index rose by more than seventeen points this term. The rate at which exam halls actually reported a device-related incident did not move at all.
A new paper from the School of Continuous Improvement traces the gap to a staggered rollout of numbered device-storage pouches at the door of twenty-two exam halls, timed to delivery batches rather than incident history. Dr Renke Sabel, Dr Joost Nwosu, and Dr Thandiwe Solberg found the Index and the incident log parting ways well before the rollout finished.

The University counts the split as exactly the kind of quiet correction its measurement work is meant to keep producing. Reading the Index’s own scoring rubric against its component weights, the team traced roughly two-thirds of the rise to a single line crediting “documented storage-protocol presence” wherever a hall could show pouches in use — a line the rubric carried well before this year’s rollout. An eight-week-versus-four-week robustness check reproduced the same split.
Dr Joost Nwosu, whose research follows what becomes of a performance target once it’s been met, said the finding read less like a flaw in the Index than “a rubric finally meeting a hall willing to fill in every field it asks for.” Dr Thandiwe Solberg called the split between the two measures “the kind of daylight the University’s indicators don’t usually get.”
