An audit of nine teaching periods finds pouch issuance unmoved by the rising share of exams sitting online
Every exam sitting at Slop University still receives a sealed phone pouch, one per candidate, whether an invigilator is in the room or not. A new poster from the School of Continuous Improvement asks how long that has been true of sittings where nobody is.
Dr Renke Sabel and Dr Sten Okwuosa read nine teaching periods of the Office of Research Outputs’ pouch-distribution and enrolment logs side by side, from the first term of 2023 through the most recent sitting this year, tracking issuance against each period’s share of sittings delivered under online invigilation. Pouches issued per hundred enrolled sittings held between 98 and 101 throughout, even as the online-invigilated share rose from eight in every hundred sittings to fifty-four. The distribution protocol itself has not changed once across the nine periods examined, and no period’s paperwork records anyone asking it to.

Dr Sten Okwuosa, Senior Research Fellow and Convenor of the Impact Pathway Atlas, called the flat line “the most honest chart either of us has produced this year,” noting that a count nobody has revisited is still a count, whatever it is or isn’t counting anymore. The pair are now tracing where an online sitting’s untouched pouch ends up once the term closes.
The Office of Research Outputs has logged the audit for its next scheduled review of exam-day logistics, without setting a date for when that review might begin. The School reads the flat line as the kind of finding its own evaluation agenda exists to surface, whatever the finding turns out to be.
